Mindfulness Awe Exercises To Relieve Stress

At some point of our busy day, we could use a quick break to help us regain our physical energy, relieve stress, and rejuvenate our mental capacity.  One great way to do this is to treat yourself to a mindfulness awe break. 

Mindfulness awe involves being fully present in the moment, while you focus on what you are looking at and paying close attention to what you are seeing.  As you experience what you are looking at notice the shapes, colors, and details of it. 

You can create moments of mindfulness awe by being present in that moment, focusing on  what you see and appreciating its magnitude whether it is a landscape, picture, or whatever else makes you say “Awe.”

According to research, it shows that moments of awe can be beneficial to your mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.  If you want to learn more about how doing mindfulness awe exercises can help you, then read this article called, Four Practices for Inspiring Awe.  Also, try the practices suggested in the article.

Here are some exercises that may help you in creating moments of awesomeness while taking a break.

MINDFUL AWE EXERCISE 1

Practice an awe moment and observe this landscape.  While looking at that landscape, let your mind wonder as you ask yourself the following questions:

 

  • What colors do you see?
  • What shapes do you notice?
  • When you take a long look what else do you see?

 

Imagine you are here in this space:

  • What does it smell like?
  • What is the temperature?
  • How large is the space you see?
  • How far away from reality does this space take you?

 

Now, take one last deep breath in and let it out slowly to finish you moment of awe in being present and observing this landscape.

Practice an awe moment and observe this landscape.  While looking at that landscape, let your mind wonder as you ask yourself the following questions:

 

  • What colors do you see?
  • What shapes do you notice?
  • When you take a long look what else do you see?

  • What does it smell like?
  • What is the temperature?
  • How large is the space you see?
  • What do you believe the photographer is thinking?
  • How far away from reality does this space take you?

 

Now, take one last deep breath in and let it out slowly to finish you moment of awe in being present and observing this landscape.

Practice an awe moment and observe the bird and the environment it is in.  While looking at both, let your mind wonder as you ask yourself the following questions:

 

  • What colors do you see?
  • What shapes do you notice?
  • When you take a long look what else do you see?

 

Imagine you are here in this space:

  • What does it smell like?
  • What is the temperature?
  • What do you believe the bird is looking at?
  • What do you believe the bird is hearing?
  • How far away from reality does this space take you?

 

Now, take one last deep breath in and let it out slowly to finish you moment of awe in being present and observing the bird in this environment.
